In just a few days, most Americans will celebrate the birth of our nation and the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. These celebrations will no doubt take many forms from backyard barbecues to vacations with family; a restful day off from work, sitting on the couch watching television, reading a book, etc., etc., etc.
It occurs to me that freedom as a human being and as an American citizen is not something to be taken lightly nor for granted. It seems the highest endeavor and certainly one worth pursuing. As much as anything, I cast my lot with thousands past, present, and future who believe in the Constitution of the United States and our pursuit to be a nation in which all people have a fair chance in life, where there is respect for human dignity without distinction, and whose laws of the land can be trusted for all.
As we begin these days of summer, I hope you will be more mindful than ever of the freedoms you have been afforded, and that you will choose them over and over again – for yourself and for others.
Finally, this will be the last Life & Faith until September as I scale back a bit. Please continue to look to the Monday newsletter, church website, and bulletin announcements to stay plugged into what’s going on. I pray these upcoming weeks especially will find you enjoying yourself with family and friends, getting some rest and re-creation, and celebrating your one and only life. I also look forward to seeing you in worship whenever you can!
Grace and peace,
Pastor Cathy
